Obywan Music is the professional name of singer, songwriter and classically trained multi-instrumentalist Té O’Sean. The Chicago native worked as a writer and background singer for a number of other artists before making his solo debut in 2019 with the song “Swishers.” That track introduced a talented artist with a smooth NeoSoul vibe and a taste for Jazz-infused R&B instrumentals.
Since that first single he has dropped five more as well as two EPs. With a commitment to the growth of his ever evolving sound, the prolific songwriter expands the scope and depth of his music with each new record. An adventurous composer and producer, Obywan is schooled in the roots of R%B, Jazz and Soul music.
“go to work” is the latest single from Obywan Music’s latest EP “Go To Work: [the Scorpio tape].” The 4 track EP features a nostalgic sound that mixes 90’s R&B, old-school Soul and modern production techniques. Throughout the record Oby works with a number of featured artists. The single “go to work” is a collaboration with the Kreative Villains production team. The track is a sexy, downtempo slow jam.
With its classic analog synths paired with rich and jazzy vocal arrangements, the track has a great Stevie Wonder/Prince vibe. As that mellow groove rolls on, Oby delivers a soulful lead vocal, navigating a complex melody with ease as he slides between a mellow tenor and a perfect falsetto.
