Inspo is a Modern Rock duo from Riga, Latvia. Originally started as a solo project by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist producer Aivars Lietaunieks in 2020, the band’s first few singles featured guest vocalists from Aivars’ hometown. However in 2021 lead singer Nadīna Stirneniece joined the ranks, and a band was born.
“Space Between” is the debut EP from Inspo, released worldwide to all major streaming services on November 3, 2021. The 5 song collection is a definitive statement of the band’s unique and diverse sound. From the Heavy Metal riff rock of “Harpy Eyes” to the wild experimentation in time, tempo and composition on songs like “Sweet Uncertainty” and the epic instrumental “Aspirations,” Inspo weaves Hard Rock power, Dark Pop drama and Art Rock complexity. In doing so they create something entirely new.
Nadīna’s vocal slides between quiet, dramatic melancholy and powerful Rock howls with ease. She has a classic Alternative/Prog-Rock sound that at times recalls the fragility of Bjork and at others the Rock & Roll power of Amy Lee and the legendary Ann Wilson. Her sophisticated sound is a perfect match for Aivars’ cinematic compositions. Whether wailing heavy Goth vibes on “Dawn” or delivering the sweet and sorrowful love song “A Happy Place,” the two remain perfectly in step.
Throughout the record, Lietaunieks mixes multiple genres to create Inspo’s distinctive Hard Rock sound. Harmonized and overdriven guitars meet a mix of electronic and organic instrumentation. Live bass and drums are intertwined with ambient synths and Trap beats. Serene and melodic interludes end abruptly in explosions of riff-Rock aggression. Wild Prog-Rock jams give way to quiet Dark Wave meditations. It’s a great sound from two talented and versatile musicians.
