Michael Leonard Simmons Looks For the Light of Love In a Dark World

michael leonard simmons

We first met Michael Leonard Simmons in April of this year upon the release of his single “Beyond Me.” That track introduced a talented singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist producer from Tampa, Florida with the noble vision of bringing light into a dark world, through music.

After a long hiatus from the music industry, Michael Leonard Simmons returned as a solo artist in 2020 and quickly made up for lost time. Since his appropriately titled debut “The Return,” he has produced a remarkable volume of work. In less than two years he has released two full length albums and nearly two dozen singles. With a sound that slides freely between Pop, R&B and Hip-hop, Simmons creates deeply personal, thoughtful and spiritual music with a positive but deadly serious vibe.

“Tell Me” is the latest single from Michael Leonard Simmons, released worldwide to all major streaming services on November 1, 2021. The song rides a chill lo-fi groove built on lower-register, minor-key piano chords and a slightly psychedelic Trap beat. Vocally, Michael alternates between a soulful Dark Pop chorus and a rapid-fire, yet almost whispered rap in the verse. He sings of the insecurity and uncertainty of new love and the difficulty of searching for something real in a damaged world.

We struggle to even tell people we actually love, that we love them (verbally). We were made to love. It’s needed to shine light into this hateful world.
