Riku (戮) is a singer/songwriter from Japan who made a name for himself as the lead vocalist for popular bands like Hiskarea, Phantasmagoria and others. In early 2021 he launched his new solo project with a new artistic vision.
The artist’s stage name Riku (戮) translates in English to ‘insanity and unite.’ He chose the title to reflect the wildly eclectic nature of his new style, which combines Rock and Electronic music elements into a high-energy and cinematic sound.
“Rin Pun” (鱗粉) is the latest single from Riku (戮), released worldwide to all major streaming services on November 8, 2021. The track opens on a brief Lo-fi piano intro before kicking into a heavy Industrial Metal assault. The singer enters the mix with a rapid-fire spoken word rap. As the song progresses, the sound moves through Melodic Rock phrases and heavy Groove Metal verses.
The track’s complex Prog Rock arrangement is done with clockwork perfection. Meanwhile, Riku (戮) delivers a powerful commentary on self-image and the perception of beauty. The single tells the story of a woman fighting her own self esteem. She spends countless hours on her appearance which ultimately makes her mental health issues even worse.
