Katie Fry – The New Year Came

  • by
katie fry

Northern California native and resident, Katie Fry is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with a rich and diverse musical background. Raised on a dairy goat farm, her sound is heavily influenced by the Country and Folk music of her youth.

Previously performing as Katie Jane, she has worked as a solo artist and with her five piece band all over the Sacramento and San Francisco scenes. By day, the multifaceted artist works as a Certified Music Practitioner, providing therapeutic bedside music to hospital patients.

The singer made her solo debut as Katie Fry earlier this year with the 5 song EP “My California.” That record introduced a skilled and insightful songwriter with a beautiful soprano and a sound that lands somewhere between Americana and acoustic Alt-Pop. As soon as the record hit shelves, the prolific songwriter was back in the studio working on new material.

“The New Year Came” is the first single from Katie Fry’s forthcoming full length debut album, ‘Running Against The Wind.’ The song opens with a soulful, R&B-tinged piano/vocal intro. An organic ensemble of acoustic guitar, organ, bass and drums gradually enters the mix.

The song transitions to an Alt-Country vibe as Katie delivers a wistful look back at a year and a love, both now in the past. In the final verse the warm analog feel of the recording really comes through as Katie takes the lead on flute for a mellow jamband groove.
