Jon Cheney is a composer and pianist from Lehi, Utah. Over the past decade he has released a series of successful instrumental albums for piano. His work has ranged from Gospel Hymnals to Classical and Jazz.
“Christmas” it the brand new EP from Jon Cheney, released worldwide to all major streaming services on November 26, 2021. The four song collection finds the pianist performing both solo and with accompaniment. The record features the artist’s unique interpretations of some holiday classics.
With only one exception, each track on “Christmas” is a two-song medley of traditional holiday tune. The record opens on “Mary in the Manger” which combines “Away in a Manger” with “Mary, Did You Know?” The result is a beautiful piano and violin duet of softly descending melodies.
“Santa Clause Is Bringing Christmas to Town ” follows with a Classical/Jazz riff on the main melodies of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town ” and “When Christmas Comes to Town ” from the movie ‘Polar Express.’ Cheney is accompanied by a full orchestra on this festive and cinematic piece.
“Silver Bells” follows with a solo piano arrangement of the classic. Jon Cheney’s performance captures the seasonal flare of the piece beautifully. The pianist remains in the spotlight for a solo rendition of “Still, Still, Silent Night,” a mashup of the traditional holiday songs “Still, Still, Still” with “Silent Night”
