Nazariff’s Dark New Take On ‘Bad Habits’

nazariff

Nazariff is the professional name of composer and multi-instrumentalist producer, Rodger Edmonds. The Washington, DC artist made his solo professional recording debut in 2018 with the single “Mania.” However, years earlier Edmonds had embarked on a musical journey which has found him performing in a Heavy Metal band, producing Pop music in LA and now creating adventurous and experimental electronic music.

“Bad Habits” is his latest single, released worldwide to all major streaming services on November 26, 2021. The track is Nazariff’s remix of the Ed Sheeran smash. On the new version, the producer pairs a female vocalist with a genre-bending and dark interpretation of an already emotionally complex song.

After the singer’s four-count, the song opens on a stark lo-fi piano mood. Minor-key ambient synths haunt in the distance as a minimalist Trap beat sneaks in. In the song’s famously catchy chorus, Nazariff turns Sheeran’s disco groove into a stark Progressive House / Future Bass vibe.

A vocalist sings the lead with a wistful tone that really matches the recording’s haunting feel. In the bridge the track takes a great trip into the avant-garde with a wild psychedelic mix before kicking back into that House beat.
