Grim Hero is the professional name of electronic music artist Dayvon Perkins. The New Jersey producer works in a broad range of styles. Although he got his start in music ten years ago, he made his professional solo recording debut in 2020 with the single “On the Run.” The renewed focus on his art came as the result of a tragic incident in which Perkins was the victim of a stabbing which left him permanently scarred.
Since his debut, Grim Hero has produced three singles as well the introductory EP “The Adventures of Grim Hero I.” With each new release he explores a different avenue of electronic music, often more than one at a time. His music mixes Progressive House beats with elements of Glitch, Dubstep, Trap and cinematic Sci-fi soundscapes.
“On the Run (Club Mix)” is the latest single from Grim Hero, released worldwide to all major streaming services on November 30, 2021. The track is a new club mix of Dayvon’s debut single. The original was an experimental electronic jam that paired old-school Prodigy-style breakbeats with some electro-Funk and Industrial noise.
On the remix, Perkins retains the central Metal riff of the song and introduces a hard House beat. As the track progresses he drops a bit of Dubstep bass and plenty of creative sampling that brings to mind the work of electronic pioneers Art of Noise. It’s a great groove that takes the track into some wild uncharted waters.
