Apex Zenith’s New Electro-Pop Anthem

apex zenith

Apex Zenith is the new musical incarnation of music industry veteran Juan “Punchy” Gonzalez. He is a record producer and artist who has spent the past two decades working with high-profile bands like Morbid Angel, Nile, Symphony X, King’s X, Monster Magnet, Mayhem, Living Colour, Alexa Ray Joel, and many others.

As an accomplished songwriter and recording artist in his own right, Punchy has explored a broad spectrum of musical genres. From heavy guitar-driven Alternative Rock (Lover of Sin) to cutting edge Industrial (Diet of Worms) and retro Synth-Pop (The Synth Lord), he is an adventurous and experimental composer and producer.

“Turn Up Your Stereo” is the lead-off single from Apex Zenith’s debut album “Pinnacle.” On his new project, Gonzales has gone back to the future for a deep dive into the fabulously synthy world of the 1980’s. The 10-track album takes us on a wild ride through the neon-lit shopping malls and video arcades of everyone’s favorite decade.

With an upbeat New Wave groove and a quirky guitar/synth mix that lands somewhere between The Go-Go’s and Devo, “Turn Up Your Stereo” kicks off the parachute pants dance parts. In the chorus the track kicks into a funky Euro-Disco vibe reminiscent of early Depeche Mode. Meanwhile, Jaun drops some carpe diem philosophy in the form of the song’s fist-pumping title.

Check out the “Turn Up Your Stereo” video below. It is a lot of fun with visual references to 80’s sci-fi classics like TRON, Battlestar Galactica and Star Wars.
