Kele Fleming – Sturgeon Love

  • by
kele fleming

Kele Fleming is a singer/songwriter from Vancouver, Canada. The veteran musician has a recording career that spans the better part of the last twenty years and includes four full length albums and a series of singles. A champion of the environment, women’s rights and LGBT issues, she writes socially conscious Alternative Pop, Rock and Folk music. The singer often ties her musical projects directly to causes in which she believes.

“Sturgeon Love” is the latest single from Kele Fleming’s fourth studio album “The Song I’ll Write for My Whole Life.” With a new video released to YouTube on October 30, 2021, the song is an upbeat Alt/Pop celebration of the natural life of the songwriter’s beloved Canada.

The Fraser River forms a massive river system in Vancouver, the city I have lived in for many decades. The sturgeon have plied the murky waters of this river for millennia.

Musically, the track pairs its folky sensibility with a cool organic Funk. Drummer Tony Lee lays down a shuffling groove that bassist/guitarist Aaron Trory rides with a rolling bassline and some Bowie-esque, ethereal psychedelic guitars. The song has a real 90s Alternative feel, highlighted by Kele Fleming’s smooth soprano which lands somewhere between Natalie Merchant (10,000 Maniacs) and Dolores O’Riordan (The Cranberries). It’s a great sound with a loose, jammy vibe. Ron Yamauchi delivers some particularly nice leads with a jazzy chordal piano solo in the bridge and some nice analog synths on the outro.
