Taylor Jaffe is a singer, songwriter and political scientist from Upstate NY. Growing up on a livestock farm in Livingston Manor, the multifaceted young artist began writing songs when she was only six years old. Since then she has simultaneously and pursued both her artistic and academic passions.
Before graduating magna cum laude from Colgate University, Taylor Jaffe performed in a number of musical groups like the ‘Broad Street Behind the Beats Jazz Cabaret.’ She also served as musical leader in the all female a cappella group, “The Swinging Gates.” It was while attending the Hamilton, NY university that the singer produced her debut EP “Free Fall.” Over the course of five tracks she soulfully navigates through love’s confusion and an Alt-Pop, multi-genre mix.
From the opening notes of the title track we can hear Taylor’s classical training and experience as she executes some beautiful octave-climbing Jazz phrasing. The track gradually evolves into a soulful electro-Pop love song. “Just a Crush” follows with an organic mix of Lo-fi Indie and classic Pop. Taylor’s performance has the cool casual confidence of a seasoned Jazz vocalist as she sings of a fleeting attraction.
“Losing Myself” finds the singer in a much more serious romance. With a mix of Carole King piano balladry and modern Pop vulnerability she sings of an overwhelming infatuation. “I’ll Cry” is a retro Noir Pop crooner. Taylor Jaffe seems born for the sound with her smooth mix of torch song drama, Jazz chops and Pop sensibilities. The record closes on “This Must Be the Road to Nowhere,” a fun mash-up of the Talking Heads classics “This Must Be the Place” and “Road to Nowhere.”
