Cloud Tape is an experimental electronic music project, originally created by Don Ruzek (Ten Ten, Dave Adams) and Julie Jumper during the earliest days of the genre at Virginia Commonwealth University in 1980. Ruzek was studying Tape Manipulation and Electronics in Music and Julie was a music student. Other notable musicians connected to the project include; Dorian, Peter Banta, Rob Dean (Japan, Sinéad O’Connor), and Klaus McCauley (Stereo Reptiles).

Forty years since its launch, Don and Klaus have breathed new life into the project. “Field 6” is the latest single from Cloud Tape, released on the duo’s brand new label, West Ray Records. The track dropped worldwide to all major streaming services on November 24, 2021. Once again the group dives deeply into the world of experimental electronic music with eight minutes of ethereal stratospheric exploration.

“Field 6” is a beautiful Ambient composition that mixes organic and electronic elements to create a mood conducive to creative focus. The piece was composed on guitar by Ruzek. Layers of atmospheric color paint a rich yet understated tapestry of sound. Subtle ancillary melodies and deep bass tones color the landscape as a bed of ambient clouds expands the horizon.

Check out the “Field 6” video below. You can also hear the track on the Deep Indie Chill playlist, or listen on your favorite streaming service.
