Frankie Flowers is an up and coming Alternative singer/songwriter from Ontario, Canada. She made her professional solo recording debut in 2020 with the single “Psychedelic Sunrise.” That track introduced a talented artist with a hypnotic Alt-Pop/Rock sound that incorporates elements of classic New Wave with a modern Indie Rock aesthetic.
Since that first release Frankie Flowers has dropped a total of three singles and is currently working on her debut EP “Space Cowgirl.” With each track she further refines and defines her unique blend of Dark Wave and Psychedelic Dream Pop. In addition to more modern acts like KennyHoopla and The Drums, the singer cites Post Punk and New Wave legends like The Cure and Joy Division as inspiration. On her new single she reinvents a classic from one of the pioneers of British Alternative.
“There is a Light That Never Goes Out” is the latest single from Frankie Flowers, released worldwide to all major streaming services on December 3, 2021. The song was originally written and recorded in 1986 by The Smiths. That legendary group from Manchester, UK famously paired lead singer Morrissey’s melancholy lyrics with upbeat, jangly guitar Brit-Pop grooves. Frankie takes a different route, matching the music to the mood.
Minor key ambient synths and electric guitars create an ethereal DarkWave mood. Frankie Flowers enters the mix with a soulful and mournful vocal that lands somewhere between Siouxsie Sioux and Billie Eilish. Bass and drums join the ensemble to kick the track into a cool downtempo groove. The song floats in a dark dream as Frankie pairs that dramatic mood with morbidly romantic lines like, “To die by your side is such a heavenly way to die.”
