Deived – 8 Questions & The New ‘Said Goodbye’

Deived is a singer, songwriter and producer who recently made his professional solo recording debut. Born and raised in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, from a young age he pursued his dual passions for sports and music. When he was just 15 years-old the young artist lost his father, with whom he was very close. Music was a refuge and he became even more committed to his creative projects.

The teenage Deived studied traditional, Classical and Jazz music in school while digging deep into Pop and Rock at home. Artists like Blink 182, The Beatles, Shakira and many others helped shape his sound. In 2017, after Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, a now an adult Deived relocated to Chicago, Illinois. There he continued to work on music and has now released his first song.

“Said Goodbye ” is the debut single from Deived, released worldwide to all major streaming services on November 12, 2021. A Lo-fi breakbeat groove opens the track. A pulsing bassline, ambient synths and ringing electric guitar chords give the tune a classic New Wave/Dark Wave vibe. Soon Deived enters the mix with a melancholy and wistful tale of lost love and future possibilities. Airy backing vocal harmonies and the singer’s own mellow soul give the song a beautiful dreamy quality.

8 Questions with Deived

deived

Where are you from?

I’m from Bayamon, Puerto Rico. I moved from Puerto Rico to Chicago in 2017, shortly after Hurricane Maria devastated the island. I’m currently living in Chicago.

How long have you been making music?

The first instrument I learned to play was the bass guitar, a gift from my Mom for my 14th birthday. I started to get more serious about writing my own music in my early 20’s around when my Mom gave me my first acoustic guitar. I’ve played in bands throughout that time. “Said Goodbye” is the first song of my own that I’ve released to the public – It was released on my birthday near the end of last yearMy music journey is only just getting started, there’s much more to come.

Who are the musicians involved in your project?

For “Said Goodbye”, my first and only song at the moment, I created the original melody, instrumentation and sang the vocals. I also handled production recordings. Daniel Luttrel co-produced the song with me and Axel Voit, from Platinum Mastering, was the mastering engineer.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

When it comes to being a singer/songwriter, I am heavily inspired by The Beatles. I really admire what Paul McCartney and John Lennon have achieved. As for my style, I’d say much inspiration comes from Blink 182, The Killers, and Russ. I’d also like to include Jose Alfredo, a close friend and fellow musician.

Who is your greatest non-musical influence?

My mom. She’s been a fighter since she took care of me and my sister. My dad said goodbye to the family and to the world when I was 15.

What inspired you to create this project?

Every significant change I encountered in my life, including heartbreaks and natural disasters, have inspired me to create Said Goodbye. Rather than dwelling on what was lost, I like to take a positive approach by focusing on remembering the good things and looking forward to whatever is to come.

What are your plans for the future (musically)?

Record more songs and tour all over the world. Meanwhile, I plan to experiment and challenge myself musically.

Is there anything else you would like to say?

Keep fighting for your dreams. It is never late. Keep kicking booty MotherFunger.
