Adam Anglin is an independent singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist bedroom producer from Denver, Colorado. He made his professional solo recording debut in 2020 with the album “Am I Gonna Die Now?” That record introduced a multifaceted, genre-bending artist with a DIY Indie vibe and soulful, Blues-hued vocals. The album’s current single is a groovy bit of Lo-fi Dark Indie Pop titled “Livin With the Dead.”
A simple, straightforward but catchy bass line beats at the heart of the song. It rides a minimalist retro drum machine groove as analog synths and a touch of guitar paint the edges of the mix. The sound is great combination of modern Indie, 90’s Alternative and 60’s Psychedelia. If Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys and Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips were to do some introspective soul searching together, the end result may sound something like “Livin with the Dead.”
Lyrically, Adam Anglin does indeed do some serious soul searching as he delivers a deeply personal examination of his own mental state. The autobiographical song shines a light on the anxiety, fear and relationship difficulties resulting from the singer’s recent Gardner’s Syndrome diagnosis. The rare genetic disease puts its victims at higher risk of various forms of cancer. Anglin delivers a soulful and sincere performance as he wonders aloud if he is, “livin with the dead too much.”
It’s part of my story and one that I am open to people knowing about. It’s helped shape my music and so much of my perspective as a songwriter.
