Hailing from the River City, Cory Driscoll is a singer/songwriter who spent around eight years helming popular Florida bands like Young Adult and Curious Animals. In 2018, he made his professional solo recording debut with the seven-song collection, “Tropical Depression.” Driscoll works with long-time collaborator and guitarist Sam Lloyd and an ensemble of musicians from across the United States to create his unique brand.
Released worldwide to all major streaming services on January 28, 2022, “Promised Land” is the third single from the singer’s forthcoming conceptual album, “Eureka Springs.” Presented in three parts, the track paints a lush musical soundscape as Cory sings of wanting to be wanted by the object of his affection. The song rides a classic, mid-tempo Indie-Pop groove through the first verse, reminiscent of the great Elvis Costello as Driscoll sings, “I want to be chosen. I don’t want to force your hand.”
Bringing to mind the theatrical and nuanced Pop arrangements of Paul McCartney’s Wings, just before the 2:00 mark Cory Driscoll takes the tune into a mellow half-time groove as he dives deeper into his melancholy yet hopeful contemplation. In Act 3, the “Promised Land” picks up the pace for a rollicking and loose Alt-Pop/Rock romp. It’s a great exclamation point to the singer’s heartfelt pitch for love.
