Ró is a new Alternative Rock duo from Iceland with an musically adventurous and experimental sound. Although the band is new, its members are both veterans of their small country’s thriving music scene. The multi-instrumentalist songwriting team of Ómar and Ragnar debuted their new project in February of 2021 with the ten-song collection, “Mirror World.”
That record introduced a wildly creative group with a sound equally influenced by Classic Rock artists like The Beatles, Emo giants like Dashboard Confessional and Alternative heroes like Maynard James Keenan’s Tool off-shoot A Perfect Circle. It is a dark, melancholic sound. Ómar and Ragnar pair poetic lyrics with compositionally sophisticated music, unbound by genre distinctions. With a mix of organic and electronic instrumentation they create a smart and distinctive vibe all their own.
“Satellite” is the latest single from Ró, available worldwide on all major streaming services and YouTube. The song opens on a deceptively simple two chord electric guitar and vocal arrangement. After that brief intro the ensemble expands to include bass, drums and ambient keys. From there the song flows through its verses and choruses with a dreamy detachment as the singer delivers soulful and esoteric narrative. It’s a hypnotic sound reminiscent of groundbreaking Alternative bands like Radiohead and Incubus.
