PsychCloned Takes a Leap of Faith

PsychCloned is Gabriel Pureco, a multi-instrumentalist composer who makes genre-defying and cinematic instrumental music. The North Carolinian musician was first inspired by video game soundtracks. Soon he was writing music and quickly developed his own distinctive sound.

Regular readers of The Static Dive are well acquainted with PsychCloned. We have followed him over the past couple of years as he delivered a remarkable volume of work in a very short period of time. Since 2019, the prolific producer has released 4 albums, 4 singles and two EPs. Just last month he dropped “Perlivash,” his epic 26 minute collaboration with UK guitarist Ry Jones.

“Leap of Faith” is the latest single from PsychCloned, released worldwide to all major streaming services on February 4, 2022. With the help of guitarist C.G. Camillo, Gabriel takes a deep dive into the world of Progressive Jazz on the new track. A quartet of piano, guitar, bass and drums delivers a wild instrumental ride of melodic moods and sophisticated improvisational complexity.

With ‘Leap of Faith’ I aim to simplify my songs a bit by steering away from my usual cinematic orchestral compositions.

The piece opens on a chordal piano intro. Soon the band joins in for a mellow and melodic groove. By the 1:00 mark the band digs into a flurry of notes and syncopated sub-rhythms. Over the next four minutes we follow them through a whirlwind of time signature shifts, rapid fire arpeggios and experimental improvisation. The piano and guitar each take turns at lead while the rhythm section lays down a polyrhythmic funk.
