Gukie is an emerging singer, songwriter and rapper with a smooth and soulful sound. Born and raised in the south-central Enugu state of Nigeria, he started making music when he was just 7 years old. As a teenager he immigrated to Canada. Now based in Calgary, the talented musician has spent the last few years establishing himself in the music industry with his unique mix of R&B, Hip-hop, Afrobeat and Neo-soul.
Since debuting in 2018 with the single “Waves,” the prolific songwriter has delivered a remarkable volume of work. In just 4 years he has produced fifteen singles, an EP and three different versions of his debut album “Loverboy.” His music has connected with fans around the world. With each new release his fan base grows exponentially. Recently he dropped his most ambitious work to date, the brand new 21-track “Lover Boy (Deluxe),” featuring all of the songs of the previous versions as well as a set of new material.
“After the Rain” is the latest single from “Lover Boy (Deluxe)” released worldwide to all major streaming services on February 10, 2021. As the track opens, a sampled Jazz guitar plays a bluesy riff. Soon Gukie enters the mix with a sweet love song about the excitement of a new romance. Deep bass tones join that melodic guitar loop as they ride a funky minimalist Hip-hop beat. Meanwhile Gukie alternates between soulful lead vocals and melodic rap. A great hook in the chorus brings the tune firmly into the Pop realm.
