Ainae’s New Breakout Heartbreaker – Numb

  • by
ainae

Ainae made her official solo recording debut in 2018. However, it wasn’t until two years later that the world would really get to know the singer/songwriter from SouthEast Washington DC. That is when the soulful songstress appeared as a member of Kelly Clarkson’s team on Season 20 of The Voice. Her Blind Audition and Battle Competition videos collectively garnered over 800K views. The performance made an impact with fans around the world. The singer made a big impression on the show’s famous judges as well.

You live in a more ethereal place… This whole show is about finding a special voice, and you, my friend, are super special and different from anyone on the show.

Kelly Clarkson, The Voice, 2021 (commenting on Ainae’s performance)

Since dropping her debut EP “Contort,” Ainae has delivered 5 follow-up singles. However, her latest song is her first since appearing on The Voice. Poised to become her breakout hit, she delivers a deep and soulful performance in her signature crossover style. “Numb” was released worldwide to all major streaming services on February 11, 2022.

Deep bass tones and ambient synths ride a minimalist downtempo Lo-fi Trap beat. Whispered background vocals float on the periphery to add to the song’s dreamy quality. At center stage is the singer herself, matching the song’s hypnotic vibe with a soulful ethereal soprano. In a string of poetic stanzas she mourns the loss of love. However, by the end of the song she has found strength in her own self reliance.
