Moon and Aries is a new collaborative musical project from German music producer Tom Aries and Canadian songstress, Jordana Moon. The duo launched the project in March of 2021. Despite working remotely across the Atlantic ocean and juggling a 9 hour time difference, the two musicians have been remarkably prolific. Since releasing their debut in April 2021 the pair has produced a total of 9 singles and a full length album.
Jordana Moon is singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Western Canada. Prior to starting Moon and Aries she released a pair of Bluesy solo tracks (as Jordana Kalenova). The singer says that her approach to music is, “to mix a higher level of consciousness and concepts and bring these more philosophical ideas to modern music.” She makes music with themes of high consciousness, sexual healing and empowerment, citing the influence of artists like Portishead, Shivaree, Eliza, Tori Amos, Joni Mitchell, Lauryn Hill and Massive Attack.
Tom Aries (aka Tom Sundermann) is an electronic artist and producer from Germany. Over the years the prolific composer has created music for computer games and soundtracks for short videos and films. For his solo material Tom performs as Galaxy of Night and has released a string of singles over the past two years. He finds inspiration in the classic 80’s synths of Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk and the Trip-hop grooves of bands like Portishead and Röyksopp.
“The Arrival ” is the debut album from Moon and Aries, released worldwide to all major streaming services on February 22, 2022. The 9 song collection features most of the duo’s previously released singles. Compiled together the tracks comprise a concept album designed to, “Raise the collective consciousness through high vibe music.” The sound is a hypnotic mix of Synthwave vibes and Trip-hop beats.
The title track introduces the record and sets the stage for a cryptic and sensual digital journey. Jordana’s sultry and soulful vocals ride a mesmerizing mix of ambient synths and electronic percussion. As the record progresses we move through different phases and moods of the group’s Dark Electro-Pop style.
The duo conjures the nuanced Alternative Electronic sounds of the legendary Kate Bush on tracks like “Cold” and “Lost in Separate Worlds.” Elsewhere Jordana calls on a wide range of 80s chanteuses from electro-punk queen Siouxsie Sioux to soprano legend Sarah Brightman. She and producer Tom Aries rap her performance in a mesmerizing mix of downtempo beats, ethereal synths and syncopated electronic percussion, from the dreamy moods of “Pink Moon” to the Pat Benetar-style Pop anthem drama of “Shadow.”
