Sink is the professional name of singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Dylan Lackey. The Detroit native first took an interest in making music five years ago. Since then he has taught himself to play both the guitar and piano. Now living in Yokosuka, Japan, he made his professional solo recording debut in 2019 with the single “Danny Phantom.”
Since then, Sink has produced a steady string of material including three singles and two EPs. His early work consisted primarily of downtempo Trap, Hip-hop and R&B jams. On his latest record the artist took a sharp stylistic turn into a guitar driven Alternative Rock sound.
“Lovely Adventures Of Sink and Vonni!” is the brand new 5-song EP from Sink, released worldwide to all major streaming services on February 25, 2022. He is joined by featured artist, Vonni Max. The record opens with the bong hits and stoner confusion of “Heartbreak Hotel!” Over a laid-back Indie Rock groove the singer delivers a whispered verse before the track kicks into a big Emo Rock chorus. The song alternates between the two as Sink sings and raps about his relationship woes.
“Remedy” is a classic, early 2000’s Blink 182-style Punk/Pop bop. Sink matches the upbeat rocker with an infectiously catchy chorus and a cool, rapid-fire delivery in the verse. “Who the Fuck Is Ashley!” follows with some nice 80’s guitar power chords riding a modern Indie Pop beat. The song is a great mix of Rock, Pop and retro vibes.
“Sounds Of War!” takes a sharp turn into downtempo Grunge territory. The song’s dark minor-key meditation is a powerful contrast to the playful nature of the previous tracks. The closer “Till Death!” is a real highlight. The tune rides on an midtempo Lo-fi Indie Pop groove as the singer delivers a stream of consciousness spoken word verse about the confusion of young love. The chorus keeps things cryptic and cool with a dreamy sing-along and the excellent line, “No sleep now cuz we’re just millennials.”
