Sal & Smit are a songwriting and production team with a genre-defying style and an experimental streak. The duo made their professional recording debut in 2019 with the song “WWW.” That track introduced a wildly creative pair of musicians with a sound that mixes elements of Pop, Alternative, EDM and Hip-hop into something that is distinctly their own.
Since then, Sal & Smit have released a total of five singles. They were quiet through 2021. However, now they are back. After “ups and downs, countless hours, thriving towards perfection,” the team from Antwerp, Belgium deliver their first new music of 2022.
“Deep Unknown” is the latest single from Sal & Smit, released worldwide to all major streaming services on March 4, 2022. Deep piano chords and ambient synths introduce a Dark Pop mood as the singer enters with a soulful lead vocal. Soon a wobbly synth bass drops to add a taste of Dubstep.
The duo leans in on the EDM/Alt-Pop vibe with a House snare roll landing on a percussive Trip-hop beat. The track rolls on that hypnotic mix as the singer delivers a cryptic tale of escape, riffing on the theme of the title as he sings of “drowning in deep unknown.”
Uncertainty is the towering feeling that makes us aware and strive towards a better future, even when the whole world is on the brink of losing itself…
