We first heard from The Rhythm Bullies last year upon the release of their “Dysnomia” EP. That record introduced regular readers of The Static Dive to singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist producer Sebastian Mogan. A native of Franklin, Tennessee and now based in Nashville, Mogan makes his music despite being profoundly vision and hearing impaired due to a genetic disorder called NF2.
The Rhythm Bullies’ sound is a mix of modern Indie Rock and the classic Alternative and Punk from across the decades. As a songwriter, Sebastian pairs infectious Pop hooks with Garage Rock guitar riffs and adrenaline fueled backbeat grooves. On his latest release he takes his retro-future beat to the beach.
This is what rock should sound like in 2022.

“Surfdom” is the new two song EP from The Rhythm Bullies, released worldwide to all major streaming services on February 18. The record opens with “Smoke Rings.” A Lo-fi New Wave rocker with a Proto-punk edge. A guitar, bass and drum ensemble a groove reminiscent of early Cure. Meanwhile Sebastian drops strong Iggy Pop vibes as he laughs at the looming apocalypse and sings, “The world is burning baby, so grab a cigarette.”
The record closes with a two minute Surf Punk bop, “The Beachgoer.” Mogan delivers the tale of an ill-fated trip to the beach as the band rocks out on a Ventures-style guitar riff. A groovy bit of organ adds a healthy dose of psychedelic 60’s Pop.
