Superblood is the new professional name of Los Angeles based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist producer Cam Rostami. Regular readers of The Static Dive know Cam well from a string of fabulous singles he has released over the last two years. Much of his music pairs a Lo-fi Indie-Pop aesthetic with bleeding edge Alternative Electronic experimentation.
Already a successful actor (‘True Grit,’ ‘Feast of the Seven Fishes’), Rostami was seeing his music career take off in 2021. Unfortunately none of that could soften the blow when Cam tragically lost his mother last year. The songwriter retreated to the recording studio to cope with the grief. After months of reflection he emerged with a new sound and a new persona.
“Permission to Die” is the debut single from Superblood, released worldwide to all major streaming services on March 25, 2022. A sort of Lo-fi/New Wave riff beats at the heart of the song. Cam steps to the mic and delivers a narrative on the impermanence of life that manages to be both thoughtful and catchy. As the track progresses, its minimalist drums gradually grow more Glitch and the song incorporates elements of Synthwave and Indie Rock. By the last chorus the track goes full Hyperpop when all of these Electronic and Rock elements come together.
