Vintage CB is a multi-disciplinary artist who is making his professional recording debut in 2022. Already an accomplished Science Fiction writer, he fell into music production almost by accident. He needed a soundtrack for an animated script he had written. One song turned to ten, and all of a sudden he had an album.
“Leptonicity” is the brand new album from Vintage CB, released worldwide to all major streaming services on April 22, 2022. The subatomically titled record is a diverse mix of Hip-hop grooves, R&B Soul, Pop hooks and a talented ensemble of guest vocalists.
From the opening guitar chords and Trap beat of “When I look Outside” (feat Daneik Ashley) to the Dark Pop/Hip-hop of “Right Now” (Esther Dennis) the album is a multi-genre mash-up of introspective soliloquies, inspirational affirmations and infectious dance grooves. Zenia takes her turn at the mic for “Thinking of Leaving” and “Gravity,” two sultry and emotionally complex slow jams.
Dominican vocalist Fancina steps to the mic for the hypnotic Pop/Trap fantasy “Se La Vie.” The two part “Dance to the Song” follows, featuring the vocal stylings of sikkathorn. ‘Part 1’ has a particularly dreamy vibe and is a real highpoint on the record. Vintage CB keeps up the club vibe with a wildly creative syncopated groove of “Dance the Night Away” featuring Wilmary Music. The same crew teams up for the breakbeat Latin Funk of ‘Bailar La Salsa’.
“Talk to Me” takes a cool turn into spoken word as CB rhymes melodically over a funky abstract beat. Eventually a Jazz ensemble of guitar, bass and keys slide into the mix. Doroh Kennedy responds to CB’s love poetry with a soft and soulful verse.

8 Questions with Vintage CB

Where are you from?
I grew up in Brooklyn, NY but was born in the Caribbean, St. Vincent & Grenadines.
How long have you been making music?
I just started this year a few months ago in February. I previously just focused on science fiction stories and recently completed a screenplay for an animation movie.
Who are the musicians involved in your project?
My album includes features from up and coming vocalists in the pop and R&B genre.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
I grew up listening to mostly soca and reggae then transitioned to hip-hop when I moved to Brooklyn. Growing up I was inspired by Bob Marley’s writing prowess and unique style.
On the hip-hop side, I listened and admired the creativity of Ghostface Killah (Wu-Tang).
What is your greatest non-musical influence?
Alex Haley’s roots was the first book I read outside of a class assignment. That book definitely impacted me and inspired me to be a writer.
What inspired you to create this project?
Initially, I wanted to create a single for the animation script that I recently completed. The first song on the album was meant to go with the movie, however, inspiration kept coming so I ended up with a 10-track album.
What are your plans for the future (musically)?
I already wrote and I’m in the process of finishing 7 more singles that will be released periodically throughout this year. I also plan to release my second album early next year 2023.
Is there anything else you would like to say?
I hope my story inspires someone else to find that hidden talent that was dormant this whole time. Much love!
