Holy Ramen – New EP & ‘3am Thoughts’

Holy Ramen
Exile

We first heard from Holy Ramen in November of last year upon the release of her single “Sanctuary.” That track introduced readers of The Static Dive to a genre-bending singer, songwriter and producer from Toronto, Canada. She made her debut in 2019 with the single “Take 1” after years of defining and refining her sound.

In the three years since that first single, Holy Ramen has produced an impressive volume of work including five stand-alone singles, a full length album and now a brand new 5-song EP titled ‘In Exile’, released worldwide to all major streaming services on April 22, 2022. The record and its title reflect the singer’s recent self-imposed solitude, which she says was prompted by the duality of a ceaselessly toxic news cycle and happy-go-lucky social media influencers.

I needed to cut myself off from everyone and everything. I entered a self-imposed exile, hence the name for this EP.

Holy Ramen

From the Dark Pop meditation of ‘Sanctuary’ to the Classical/Hip-hop mash-up of ‘Disappear’, the new EP explores every corner of Holy Ramen’s wildly diverse sound. Trap beats meet Dream Pop moods on tracks like ‘Red’ and ‘Disappear’. Throughout all of the record’s the stylistic twists and turns, Holy Ramen raps and sings observations of the world as seen from her place of isolation.

“3am Thoughts” in the brand new single from “In Exile.” The track rolls on a cool downtempo vibe. A chill bass and Jazz guitar ride a syncopated breakbeat Funk groove as ambient synths float on the horizon. Holy Ramen steps to the mic for an introspective freestyle rap about the confusion and general sense of ennui caused by living in an ever-increasingly insane world.
