Shari Walker is a poet, singer and songwriter who weaves together elements of Hip-hop, Jazz and spoken word Beat poetry to tell soulful and inspiring tales of people struggling against seemingly insurmountable odds. A former foster care child herself, through public speaking and her music Shari advocates for children now living that same reality.
The USC Master of Social Work graduate in the department of Social Change and Innovation is passionate about her work and her art. Shari’s music is an extension of her own story and the stories of those she stands for. She debuted in April with the passionate poetry-slam meets R&B soul of “Foster Care Life Sessions – Live.” On May 20th she will drop her debut album.
In anticipation of the album, Shari Walker released three new singles via all major streaming services on May 9, 2022. From the soft spoken encouragement and ethereal harp music of “Hard Time Sleeping” to the psychedelic effects and inspirational vibes of the autobiographical tale “Her Bus Stop” about Shari Walker’s own difficult yet ultimately successful rise out of poverty. The inspirational open letter “Heart Twist” closes the set as Shari’s soulful vocal and powerful poetry inspire us to recognize the good in ourselves and others.
