Kenton Place is an emerging Alternative Rock band that made its professional debut on the streaming scene in 2019 with the single “Pride Never Lasts.” That track introduced a rockin’ quartet of childhood friends from Houston Texas; vocalist/guitarist Logan Smalley (Smalls), drummer Noe Hernandez (Fez), lead guitarist Roque Techera (Rock, the hero), and bass guitarist Curtis Bird (Mr. Bird).
The band has made a big splash since that debut. They have played co-headlining gigs at their hometown’s prestigious White Oak Music Hall, performed in the SXSW Creative Industries Expo, and were in heavy rotation on Houston’s 94.5 The Buzz. Over the past 12 months, the band has released a series of follow-up singles. Now they have collected the tracks together into a new record, along with a remixed and remastered version of “Pride Never Lasts.”
Wearing their influences like a badge of honor, the band conjures the feel and energy of some modern Rock Gods. “Pride Never Lasts” opens on a quiet, melodic guitar and vocal intro. A percussive beat slowly works its way into the mix and ultimately builds into a driving Rock groove. The track continues to build in intensity until the end. The amps get a little louder, the vocal harmonies become more layered, and the lyrical intensity builds. Smalls delivers an emotional commentary on the final stage of grief… acceptance.
