Rednex

You know the band Rednex, whether you know it or not. They are the group responsible for the 1994 smash hit “Cotton Eye Joe.” Everyone in the known universe has heard the song by now. The hoedown EDM jam is now ubiquitous in our culture. For over 20 years the song has been played at every sporting event, wedding reception and school dance in the United states.

What you may not know is that the song is the first track on the band’s debut album “Sax & Violins.” The record was the first of a half dozen albums and a string of singles from deep country mash-up artists. Rednex has remained active ever since their debut caught the world’s attention.

In 2021, Rednex released a collection of remixes of their track “Nowhere in Ohio.” They followed earlier this year with the compilation album “Ballads & Remixes.” In their tenure the group has sold over 10 million records thanks to a dozen Top 10 hits. “Cotton Eye Joe ” went to No.1 in 15 countries. The band is still going strong, touring the world with their uniquely crafted vibe.

Below, check out the single “Riding Alone” which features an early history of the band. You can also hear the song on the Deep Indie Dive playlist, or listen on your favorite streaming service.
