Mathan Sathy is a songwriter who is making his professional recording debut in 2022 in a unique way. The Adelaide, Australia based musician composes all of the music and writes all of the lyrics for his songs. However, he doesn’t play a note on the recordings. The aspiring composer works with a team of musicians and producers on the other side of the world to bring his ideas to life.
The songwriter’s self-titled debut 4-track EP is a collection of expertly crafted and executed radio-ready Pop songs. Citing influences like Shawn Mendes, Guy Sebastian and Bruno Mars, Mathan Sathy writes empowering and funky songs that sound like hits. The tracks were produced in Los Angeles by Trey Vittetoe and mastered in Vermont by Rob Murray. All of the musicians on the record performed anonymously due to other contractual obligations.
The Mathan Sathy EP was released worldwide to all major streaming services on March 16, 2022. The record opens with the upbeat Indie-Pop groove “Chase the Sun.” A male vocalist delivers this uplifting summer party jam. As syncopated synth and guitar chords ride a percussive beat and an infectious hook, the singer dreams of escaping the daily grind for a simpler and more carefree life.
“Fine” follows with a Bruno Mars-style energetic Funk jam. A classic analog sawtooth bass holds it down as uptown horns paint the edges of the mix on this larger than life club banger. The post-breakup celebration “Free” is a Mainstream Pop declaration of independence as the singer revels in her escape from a bad relationship.
The EP closes on the super sweet and infinitely relatable “Date Night.” A soulful male vocalist trades verses with a bluesy saxophone. Sathy says he wrote the song for his wife. However the song is sure to ring true, whoever your date may be.
Whether it’s a night with a romantic partner or a best friend, the song captures the magic of the experience.
