Chris Rose is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with a timeless sound inspired by the greats of Hip-hop, R&B and Funk. The Washington DC musician made his solo professional recording debut in March of this year with the single “Black Screen.” That track introduced an eclectic artist with plenty of Soul and quirky sense of humor as he sang a love song to the AI on his phone.
Citing influences like Outkast and De’Angelo, Chris Rose mixes classic Funk grooves and styles with an old-school lyrical flow and smooth R&B vocals. the singer says he is on a mission to bring the voice of the DMV to the masses in a way that both maintains its roots and embraces the evolving culture.
“Smoke and Chill” is the brand new single and video from Chris Rose, released worldwide to all major streaming services on May 17, 2022. Rose’s electric piano introduces the tracks’ downtempo groove and retro mood. Bass, drums and psychedelic keys soon enter the mix and ride that same laid-back funk.
Rose steps to the mic and matches those Mothership vibes with the perfect balance of swag and chill as he delivers the mantra of a funky, stoned slacker. In the song’s fantastic video, with a look that lands somewhere between Prince and Morris Day, Chris sings, plays his keyboard and smokes alone in the middle of a crowded party. Meanwhile, the other guests try to determine what planet the small shirtless man is from. It’s a lot of fun.
