Dale Edward Chung Drops New Soul ‘It’s Over’

Dale Edward Chung

Dale Edward Chung may sound like a new name on the music scene. That is, until we realize that he is the same Latin Grammy-winning artist and producer formerly known as D. Edward. In his most recent music video he explains that the old moniker was, “…the name the label gave me because they didn’t know what to do with a Chinese-American Soul singer.”

Born in Oakland and now based in Los Angeles, Dale Edward Chung is a fifth generation Chinese American whose family arrived in the United States in the 1860s. After an early start in the Bay area Jazz scene he eventually joined the legendary R&B/Funk group, Con Funk Shun, with whom he performed until 2016.

In 2019, functioning as both producer and performer, he won a Latin Grammy with The Lucky Band. Dale says that in recent years he has become increasingly aware of his role in representing the AAPI community. Now performing under his given name, the singer is publicly and proudly embracing his AAPI heritage.

“It’s Over” is the brand new single from Dale Edward Chung, released worldwide to all major streaming services on April 13, 2022. As the track opens, the band eases into a cool Motown-infused 70’s Pop/Jazz groove. Horns and a smooth Jazz organ paint the periphery as Dale steps to the mic for a soulful declaration of independence. He lets his ex know, although he’ll miss her ‘high-heeled loving’, it’s over.
