We have something something special today. The singing, songwriting and production team of Alan Kay and Kevin J have asked The Static Dive to premiere the brand new video for their song, “Long Way Down.”
Alan Kay is an emerging rapper and singer who has been writing for years but only recently decided to put his words to music. After a difficult romantic split, the Kutztown, Pennsylvania artist began writing and recording songs to help deal with his emotions. Tens of thousands of SoundCloud listeners could relate, and Alan was encouraged to make more music.
Earlier this year Alan Kay released his first music to all the big distributors. In less than six months the prolific songwriter has delivered an impressive volume of work, including seven singles and a five-song EP. During this creative process he teamed up with fellow Kutztown musician, producer and singer Kevin J (aka Kevinjbeatz).
“Long Way Down” is the latest single from Alan Kay and Kevin J, released worldwide via all major streaming services on June 10, 2022. The song opens on the sad minor-key chords of a slow and low R&B ballad. Soon the beat drops on a downtempo trap groove. Ambient synths, strings and vocal samples float on the horizon as Alan Kay and Kevin J trade verses of heartache and regret on this downbeat emo freestyle. The loose improvisational feel of the song is intentional.
Nothing is ever written or prepared, and the lyrics are made up on the spot using a technique called punching in.
