Zpextre (pronounced zip-X-tree) is a northern Californian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumental producer who made his solo professional recording debut in 2018 with the cool and quirky indie-pop bop, “Souvenir.” That track’s lo-fi Wall of Voodoo-esque surf guitar groove introduced a talented and adventurous artist.
A series of equally successful experiments followed. On tracks like “Save it for the Kids!” and “Hypnotized” Zpextre dips into the catchy but cerebral psychedelic alt-pop world of bands like OK Go and Foster The People. His musical journey has taken him on a wild ride through classical, punk, jazz and pop. Along the way he says he has sought to further explore the visceral connection music creates between us all.
“Laidback Air” is a recent single from Zpextre, available worldwide via all majors streaming services. Once again the talented and eclectic artist finds pop music connections where none other knew existed. The track opens in indie rock territory but soon the band kicks into an analog 70’s disco funk vibe. The beat pairs a sexy P-Funk style groove with the quirky/awkward cool of early Talking Heads.
