Grizzy Wynter is an emerging independent hip-hop artist who made his professional solo recording debut in 2012 with the mixtape smokerings and sketchpads. That record introduced a skilled emcee with a hard, street-smart style and taste for dramatic, cinematic trap beats. The Jamaican-Canadian rapper, actor and podcaster is a leader of the thriving indie artist community in his hometown of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Since his debut Grizzy Wynter has produced a sizable volume of work. To date he has released two more mixtapes, nearly two dozen singles and the twelve song 2021 album Illuminate. That record connected with hip-hop fans worldwide and now counts its streams in the hundreds of thousands.

“Cleo” is the latest single from Grizzy Wynter, released worldwide via all major streaming services on June 1, 2022. A hard drill trap, the song tells the story of an ill-fated would-be gangbanger. The song’s title and samples are a reference to the classic 1996 crime thriller Set it Off, starring Queen Latifa as badass bank robber Cleo. Ambient synths and minor-key piano arpeggios set an ominous mood as the rapper tells his tragic tale with impressive technique and a theatrical, lyrical flow.
