We first heard from Silver Magpie in December of last year upon the release of his heartbreaker single “Before You Leave.” That song introduced The Static Dive readers to singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jesús Gutiérrez. Born in Guadalajara and now based in Mexico City, Jesús made his professional solo recording debut in 2020. He is now working on his debut album.
Growing up in Mexico, Gutiérrez always dreamed of having a band. He started writing music when he was just 13 years-old. After numerous attempts to form a group, he decided that to truly realize his musical vision he would need to go solo. So the multi-instrumentalist hit the studio. He cites indie and alternative legends like Radiohead, Placebo and Interpol as his primary influences.
“Cartoon Hero” is the brand new from Silver Magpie, released worldwide via all major streaming services on June 15, 2022. A melodic alternative rock guitar introduces the track. Soon the beat drops on a chill bass/drum/guitar/keys indie rock groove. Jesús steps to the mic with a stream of consciousness letter to a lover. The track gradually builds from a quiet lo-fi torch song to a lush alt-pop production.
