SKELLY is the professional name of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist producer, Shawn Earl Kelly. A native of Rochester, New York and now residing in Daytona Beach, Florida, he first started making music in college. With an early love for classic rock he taught himself to play the songs of legendary bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and the Beatles on guitar. Eventually he caught the songwriting bug and began recording his own music.
As his craft evolved, so did SKELLY’s sound. He eventually retired the distortion pedal in favor of a sequencer and dove into the world of retro pop- electronica. Citing artists like David Bowie, MGMT and Talking Heads as influences, the versatile creator makes genre-bending experimental electro-pop.
“Only Tonight” is the brand new single from SKELLY, available worldwide via Bandcamp and YouTube. A retro drum machine beat introduces the track. Soon a mix of ambient synths, electronic bass, 8-bit arpeggios create a hypnotic downtempo electro-pop scene. The mostly instrumental track set a classic club vibe that lands somewhere between the New Wave 80’s and the alt/electronic sounds of the late 90’s. The only vocal is a Daft Punk-esque robotic voice repeating the title.
