We first heard from Project21 in June upon the release of their debut single “Out of the Dark.” That track introduced a genre-bending new anarchic and avant-garde collaborative musical project. With German composer and producer Y’urs at the helm, the group makes provocative, socially conscious and politically charged music.
In both substance and subject matter, Project21 was born out of the COVID pandemic. When the world shut down, Y’urs proposed that musicians would find a way to work together even if they are unable to leave their homes. Project21 is the proof of that concept. The project is a virtual collaboration featuring artists from Germany, Jamaica, Ireland, Spain and Wales.
“Attack the Masses’ ‘ is the brand new single and video from Project21, released worldwide to all major streaming services on July 29, 2022. An ensemble of both live and electronic instruments lays down a chilled downtempo reggae groove. A bluesy guitar riff plays the song’s central melodic hook as vocalist Jah Ghatti sings of the oppression and inequities observed during the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021.
