Gurlik’s Chill New Jazz Vibes

gurlik

GURLIK is the professional name of multi-instrumentalist composer and producer Philip Gurlik. He debuted his latest project earlier this year with the release of the 12-track instrumental album Time Box. That record introduced a veteran DMV musician who comes to the streaming world from a decades-long career working as a performer and composer in Jazz and Classical music.

Through the years, Gurlik has worked as a band member and leader in a broad range of gigs. He’s performed on cruise ships, clubs and even the circus. With a deep background in Classical and Jazz. He cites jazz greats like Duke Ellington, Keith Jarrett and modern fusion acts like Weather Report and guitarist Pat Metheny as inspiration, as well as progressive artists such as Steely Dan (Donald Fagen) and Gentle Giant.

“Something Gained” is the brand new single from Gurlik, released worldwide via all major streaming services on July 22, 2022. The track opens on a mellow smooth jazz piano ballad. An airy synth plays the song’s primary melodic hook as a nice bluesy guitar adds a bit of flavor. Staccato orchestral strings enter the mix to lend a cinematic feel to the track.

I try to keep the music engaging to the modern ear and still be able to draw on any style or influence which fits the piece.
