M-Ritz’s Timelessly Cool Alter Ago

m-ritz

Regular readers of The Static Dive first heard from M-Ritz in July, upon the release of her album By Now. That record introduced a Seattle-native New York City-based singer/songwriter with classical chops, a taste for jazz and a flair for the cinematic.

M-Ritz began traditional vocal training at a young age. Her tastes as both an artist and fan would eventually grow to include everything from opera to rock, funk, pop and rockabilly. The singer cites legends like Ella Fitzgerald, Bjork and jazz/pop pioneer Peggy Lee as inspiration for her signature sound.

“Alter Ego” is the latest single from M-Ritz, released worldwide via all major streaming services on August 5, 2022. The song comes less than a month after the release of By Now. On the new tune, the prolific singer adds a bit of electro-swing to her signature jazzy-pop vibe as she sings from the perspective of our more fun selves.

A mix of speakeasy jazz and funky modern pop creates a timelessly cool setting. Trumpets moan while a lo-fi piano rides the backbeat over electronic bass and drums. M-Ritz slides into that scene like a sultry carnival barker selling the virtues of letting our freak-flags fly. The track is a lot of fun, and made even more so by a fantastic video.

I'm your alter-ego. So, where will we go? Let's make the free fall, into the starlight.
