Dyno Project Drops New Retro Rock Groove

dyno

Bob ‘Dyno’ DiNozzi is a veteran songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist session musician who has traveled the world making music. The Boston native got his start in the 60’s, gigging around his hometown’s historic music scene. He spent the 70’s as a session bassist in Brazil, laying tracks on some world class pop, jazz and bossa nova tunes.

DiNozzi’s career has found him rubbing shoulders on stage and in the studio with music legends from five decades of popular music. He has played in bands from New York to London. Along the way, he wrote a lot of songs. For the collaborative Dyno Project, Bob has assembled his most talented friends to record some of his favorites. The Static Dive readers have been following the project from the beginning.

“In Spite Of” is a new single from Dyno Project, released worldwide via all major streaming services on May 17, 2022. The song is a bit of a stylistic departure for the project. Most of DiNozzi’s previous releases were retro-pop/jazz bops with a heavy lean on the jazz. The new track maintains the 70’s vibe of earlier tracks, but changes the dial to the rock station.

Regular Dyno Project contributors Paul R. Rose (vocals) and Larry Finn (drums) join Bob on “In Spite Of” as he handles all guitar, bass, and keys duties. The track rides on a minor-key mix of electric and acoustic guitars that brings to mind great 70’s bands like America or maybe some of the mellower Doobie Brothers stuff. As Finn and DiNozzi lay down a smooth classic rock groove, Rose steps to the mic with a tale of love’s confusion and the narrator’s own internal battle between instinct and desire.
