Ultramonk 9 is a collective of musicians with otherworldly origins. Led by a mysterious madman named Mars Numan, they come from an underwater world, “at the crossroad of reality and imagination, deep in the heart of the Apsu-Perverse.” During their stay here on Earth, the interdimensional travelers call California home.
While stranded on our planet, Ultramonk 9 are attempting to connect with humans through music. With an ensemble of over a dozen real and virtual artists, they create a genre-fluid mix of science, fantasy, philosophy and funk. And they want us to come along for the ride.
“Ain’t Easy Being MEan” is the debut single from Ultramonk 9, released worldwide to all major streaming services on August 30, 2022. The track opens on a funky bass riff riding a lo-fi hip-hop beat. An emcee steps to the mic to drop some old-school bars.
However, the beat soon drops on a classic West Coast lowrider gangsta groove. Featured rapper King Krooked Kane steps to the mic and delivers a philosophical freestyle in a deep and raspy baritone. Meanwhile a multi-genre mix of guitars, keys and bass lays down a sexy and psychedelic funk.
