Low-Key Awesome are an emerging independent alternative band with a fresh new take on a familiar sound. The trio of Daniel Cannon (vocals, guitar), Bobbi McElroy (bass) and Russell Lowrey (drums) made their debut in 2022 with the single “All Tease.” That track introduced a hard-rocking band from Tampa, Florida with a sound that harkens back to the 1990s, when alt-rock dominated the airwaves.
The three veterans of the Tampa music scene came together with a mission to, “bring rock back to the mainstream.” Building a catalog around Seattle native Cannon’s sizable collection of songs in the vault, the band cites alt-rock and metal icons Nirvana, Beastie Boys and Black Sabbath among their biggest influences.
“Breathe” is the brand new sophomore single from Low-Key Awesome, released worldwide via all major streaming services on August 5, 2022. A grungy guitar riff opens the track as Daniel steps to the mic with his tale of angst and isolation. Soon the beat drops on a heavy downtempo rocker that pairs a raw Nirvana edge with the alt-metal arrangement and musicianship of bands like Alice in Chains. It’s a great vibe with which fans of classic alternative rock will immediately connect.
