The Royal Phantoms are an emerging electronic indie band with a sophisticated and experimental sound. They are making their professional recording debut in 2022. The Columbus, Ohio crew cites electro prog rock groups like Polyphia, Animals as Leaders, and Ratatat as inspiration for their complex and sonically adventurous sound.
The music of The Royal Phantoms weaves elements of art rock, electronic music, metal and jazz into a rich tapestry of sound. They come from that great tradition of musicians’ musicians, artists who seek the common ground between musicality and listenability. The result is a wildly entertaining and musically virtuosic vibe with nods to everyone from Zappa to King’s X.
“Galaxy” is the debut single from The Royal Phantoms, released worldwide via all major streaming services on September 15, 2022. As the song opens, we hear its central electro-metal riff ping-ponging left and right. Soon the before the beat drops on a funky, double-kick metal groove. As the song progresses we follow the band through jazz interludes on guitar and electric piano, speed metal riffing and plenty of art-rock time and tempo acrobatics.
