JaCee’s New Hip-hop Heartbreaker ‘Envious’

  • by
jacee

JaCee is an emerging independent hip-hop artist who made his professional solo debut in 2021 with the single “Rock With Me”. That track introduced a skilled emcee with an eclectic sound incorporating elements of r&b and pop. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, he now calls the state capitol Harrisburg home.

Since his debut the prolific rapper has dropped four singles and the 7-song EP Far From Average. Pairing a hip-hop vibe with a healthy dose of r&b soul, the record featured collabs with a number of other independent rappers and singers including Brameriz and SWANG.

“Envious” is the brand new single from JaCee, released worldwide via all major streaming services on August 7, 2022. Ambient synths and strings set an ominous mood as the track opens. JaCee steps to the mic with an open letter of apology to his ex. Soon the beat drops on a downtempo boombap groove. Guest vocalist Myah Marie takes a soulful turn in the chorus.

Check out Envious below. You can also hear the song on the Deep Indie Beat playlist, or listen on your favorite streaming service. We had the chance to talk to JaCee about his music. 8 Questions with JaCee

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in historic Gettysburg, PA (literally a ghost town, lol), then I decided to relocate to Harrisburg, PA in 2011 and it’s been my home ever since.

How long have you been making music?

I first discovered an interest in music in 2008 from watching TV shows focused on music, such as Making The Band; watching the process of becoming an artist, like studio recording sessions displayed on the show, got me really interested in music. Then one day, while playing a game online I bumped into this player who went by the name Brameriz, and I remember one day he told me he did music and wanted me to check it out, which I did.

But also listening to his music made me want to start a recording career myself; I’d like to give a huge shoutout to my bastard Brameriz who really inspired my journey to creating music. After learning what kinds of music programs to get, I got them and I started experimenting with a really cheap ass microphone ( ). The rest is history, I only just started to take my music journey seriously within the last five years, despite being at it for about 13 years.

Who are the musicians involved in your project?

For the single, Envious, there were a few people involved. I’d like to give a huge shoutout to Myah Marie a massively talented and well-known writer for stars like Brittany Spears, Lil Wayne, Aaron Carter, Christina Milian, Ru Paul and many more, for blessing the song with her vocals; to MoncefBeatz who is the producer of the instrumental, and to the fam SWANG for mixing and mastering the track.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

I have a ton, but to name a few I would definitely say Selena, Trina, Dawn Richard, Lyfe Jennings, Ludacris, and Rasheeda. There are many many more but we’d be here all day ( ).

What is your greatest non-musical influence?

Dreams.

What inspired you to create this project?

At the time of writing this song, I was at an inflection point in my life. I was trying to figure out which way was left or right. I had experienced quite a bit of heartbreak and disappointment, which was the driving force behind the song.

After conceptualizing the song, I reached out to Myah Marie to see if she would do a feature, once she agreed I scrambled to get the perfect music created for the track and we hit the ground running. I was so excited to work with Myah Marie, in conjunction with the rough time I was going through that I wrote my piece in about an hour—when they say heartbreak or hardship creates the best music they weren’t lying.

What are your plans for the future (musically)?

To be consistent, to keep putting out great and meaningful new music projects/videos, and to collaborate with existing and other new artists from around the world. To sum it up, I would love to pursue my artistic passion, live my dream and do what I love everyday.

Is there anything else you would like to say?

I appreciate this opportunity. I ask that fans and friends to PLEASE, PLEASE go check out my new single Envious (feat. Myah Marie)!   Share your thoughts and feedback about the track. Also please check out my EP, Far From Average available on all streaming platforms! Your honest feedback is greatly appreciated.

Most importantly, to keep up with me and what I’m doing next please follow me on Instagram. Lastly, I want to give a huge shoutout to TeamBON, and PSYKOMUSIK for their support and encouragement. I truly  appreciate all of you!
