Boyana Zhelyazkova is a singer, songwriter and violinist who made her solo recording debut in 2018 with the EP Songs from the Soul. A mix of Zhelyazkova originals and visionary reinterpretations of classics like the Beatles’ “All You Need is Love” and the great Nina Simone’s iconic “Black is the Colour”, the record introduced a deeply talented Bulgarian artist with an infectious love for music.
Although the EP was her first as a solo artist, Boyana Zhelyazkova got her start a decade earlier. As a teen she performed and recorded with the rock band Ajabez. She collaborated with the likes of poet Yassen Vassilev and theater director Nikolay Polyakov to compose and perform music for national Bulgarian theater productions. She has composed and recorded music for films, video games and even toured the international festival circuit with DJ/producer EXoBro in support of Dub FX.
“Fiddler by the Sea” is a new single from Boyana Zhelyazkova, with a brand new video released worldwide via YouTube on September 20, 2022. The instrumental piece opens on an uptempo minor-key Irish jig. In the video we see Boyana playing her violin as she walks through the countryside. In the bridge the song moves to a beautiful half-time waltz. In the third act we see the violinist dancing by the ocean as the beat picks up for a rollicking mix of percussion, guitars and layers of harmonized violin.
