Solonaki is the professional name of composer and multi-instrumentalist producer Andrew Solonos. Originally from North London, the completely self-taught musician picked up the guitar at 16. By the age of 20 he had also learned to play bass and piano. He first started recording his music in school when a beatmaking friend introduced him to modern home audio production software.
Andrew was hooked. A flurry of original recordings followed. He made his professional recording debut in 2020 with the album Dare to Dream. That record introduced a talented and experimental artist with a taste for cinematic instrumental music. Over the next two years Solonakki produced a remarkable volume of work, including five albums and a handful of singles.
Rhythmatic is the latest album from Solonaki, released worldwide via all major streaming services on September 3, 2022. The 18-track album tells a dramatic instrumental tale in four acts. The set is segmented into three-song increments, bookmarked by four astrologically themed audio interludes.
The album opens with Virgo, a set of uplifting orchestral pieces. An ensemble of strings, piano, acoustic guitar and drums paint a scene of bright colors, culminating in the emotionally layered “Euphoria”. Sagittarius follows, adding horns and electric guitar to the mix. “All our Hearts” is a real highpoint and brings to mind an All That I Can’t Leave Behind-era U2.
Pisces continues and builds on the rock and electronic vibe and goes a bit darker. Solonaki brings the eletro-rock drama on songs like “Ghost Story” and darkwave inspired “Accept It”. Things are looking up however when we reach Gemini, three inspiring orchestral electronic pop instrumentals.
