Formalities is the professional name of an otherwise anonymous emerging independent hip-hop artist who arrived on the scene in 2022. He made his debut in February with the release of the single “Reyuo”. That track introduced a talented young rapper from Arizona with a timeless sound and a verbose lyrical style.
Since that first single, the prolific producer has released a remarkable volume of work. In less than a year the 18 year-old emcee has dropped over a dozen singles, three EPs and the full-length 13-track album No Patience. His versatile sound is built on minimalist lo-fi, boom-bap and trap beats. Lyrically, the loquacious rapper flows easily between hard drill raps, cool poetry-slam style stream-of-consciousness freestyles and biting social commentary.
“Emotionless” is a brand new single from Formalities, released worldwide via all major streaming services on August 10, 2022. A deep and dirty sawtooth bass rattles the walls as the track’s syncopated beat spins. The rapper steps to the mic with his sophisticated flow, incorporating old-school lyrical style and jazz-phrasing. Without pausing for a breath he matches the beat’s eighth-note rhythm with a smart machine-gun freestyle rap.
