Dominic DeLaney is an emerging independent singer, songwriter and guitarist who made his professional solo recording debut in 2019 with the Chubby EP. That record introduced a talented young songwriter. The Floridian musician has an edgy, guitar-driven indie-rock sound informed by decades of folk, alternative and punk rock.
Following in the age-old tradition of six-string storytellers, Dominic DeLaney pours his heart out in earnest, autobiographical tales of excess, heartache, love and redemption. Since his debut, the prolific song man has followed with two full-length albums. When not in the studio, you’ll often find the award-winning songwriter from Lake Worth, touring either solo or with his band. Over the past three years he has gigged as far north as Chicago and as far West as Denver.
For Life is the brand new album from Dominic DeLaney, released worldwide via all major streaming services on September 16, 2022. The record is a deeply personal alt-rock examination of choices and consequences. Over the course of its 11 tracks we follow the singer as he looks wistfully back at a troubled past, and pensively toward the future.
The album opens on a solo acoustic intro that recalls the matter-of-fact intimacy of indie legend Daniel Johnston. From there, Dominic DeLaney steps on the distortion pedal and rocks through the many shades of alternative. From the punk energy of “For Life” and “Hopeless” to the modern indie-rockers like the excellent “The Drown”.
He hints at a 90s sound on tracks like “Anything/Anyway” and the rehab confessional, “Haunted Halls”. Throughout the album, Dominic DeLaney pairs garage rock energy with smart and insightful personal observations. He unplugs breifly for “Fuck Florida”, a clever and a surprisingly touching alt-folk emo shout-out to the singer’s home state.
